Government Overview
South Ossetia is a constitutional republic with executive, legislative and judicial branches.
The executive branch is made up of the president, prime-minister, five deputies and 18 cabinet-level ministers. The legislative branch consists of the National Parliament. The judicial system is headed by the Supreme Court of South Ossetia.
The South Ossetian constitution was adopted by referendum on April 8, 2001. The people of South Ossetia voted overwhelmingly for full independence in a referendum held November 12, 2006.
The current president of South Ossetia is Eduard Kokoity.
The current speaker of the Parliament of South Ossetia is Stanislav Kochiev.
