The Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia is the nation's lawmaking body, consisting of 34 MPs, representing all citizens.
Stanislav Kochiev, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia
Stanislav Kochiev has been the Speaker of the Parliament of South Ossetia since 2009. He also served as Speaker of Parliament from 1999-2004. In 1993 he founded the Communist Party of South Ossetia and serves as first secretary of the Central Committee. As leader of South Ossetia's supreme legislative body, Kochiev supports the economic development of South Ossetia through closer ties with Russia and North Ossetia, nationalization of industry, and stronger ties within the former Soviet bloc nations.
Judicial Branch
The Supreme Court of South Ossetia is the highest judicial body in the republic.
